This Dallas band started in high school and performed in many venues around the city. Although none of its members are leading songwriters, critics are amazed at the cohesiveness of
Macavity's live shows and recordings. After opening for groups such as
Chomsky and Valve, the group appeared on a local compilation album.
Macavity was signed to Idol Records in 2001 and released its debut effort,
Falling Hard in the Key of E, in 2002. The band has performed at South By Southwest Festivals and other musical showcases. Describing its sound as "spemo" or space rock meeting emo rock,
Macavity has been compared to the likes of
Jimmy Eat World and
the Flaming Lips. ~ Jason MacNeil
