Magon

Magon

The time has come for change... After playing shows all over Europe and soaking up his experiences and influences, Magon's second album was born out of a year-long period when so much happened in his life. Entirely produced and arranged by Magon himself, the album follows the release of ‘Out In The Dark’ in 2019. ‘Hour After Hour’ marks a turn toward Magon's versatile side, evoking a bolder yet more introspective approach of the Paris based Israeli singer/ songwriter. His style is more assertive there, subverting expectations and mutating his sound in fascinating ways, paving the way to a fantastic compilation of Garage and Psychedelia. The album opens with the sweet ballad - almost Ty Segall-esque - ‘Change’ and culminates with the very energetic, instrumental and speedy psychedelic 'New Rock!'. In that respect, ‘Hour After Hour’ is a journey through various emotions, that of a man who evolves and does not hesitate to show his vulnerability, enthusiasm or desolation. On this record, Magon's production is denser and more adventurous, in favour of a more expansive style, leaving a lot of room for instrumentation and sound effects. The new set of songs have an even more nuanced tone, bolder sonic experiments and breathtaking vocal delivery. ‘Hour After Hour’ is unique in the way it mixes blissful melodies (‘ Alexa’, ‘Coucou My Friend’) with thick fuzzy riffs (‘Next Life’, ‘Yolanda’, ‘Shackles Of The Wretched’). The tone is languorous and lyrical, Magon is a witness to the passing of time, behaving like a contemplative poet. We feel a sense of relief listening to this album. ‘Hour After Hour’ takes us through the tribulations of a character we inevitably become attached to. With simple but strong melodic frameworks, Magon’s creative restlessness, and the infectious intensity of his instrumental work on guitar and bass are the constants in his ever-evolving discography.
