Mahaleo

Mahaleo was formed in the 1970s by a group of students who were inspired by the social upheavals of that time. Probably the first truly modern Malagsy band, Mahaleo managed to blend the sound of pop music with more traditional instruments and rhythms. They became (and remain) immensely popular, although now in semi-retirement. Once full-time musicians, three of the members are now doctors, three sociologists, and two in the government. ~ Leon Jackson
