Makaela

Makaela

Who knew a Howard University graduate from Canarsie, Brooklyn would began performing and participating in glee clubs and choirs in kindergarten.

I lived in Trinidad with my grandparents for 3 years as a child (Both sides of my family are from Trinidad). My grandfather had an amazing voice and would wake up before the sun to exercise and while he was jogging/walking around the house, he would always whistle tunes that I would later try to imitate. That's when everyone realized I could sing and I haven't stopped since.

When I moved back to the states, I began learning stories of my mother (who got her voice from my grandfather) performing all over Trinidad as a child. She was and still is extremely well known on the island. It inspired me to want to continue our families legacy.
I am, extremely inspired by singers like Jazmine Sullivan, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Monica, and Lauryn Hill who are amazing story tellers in the passion they put into their music. They all also have unique tones that you could never confuse, which is something I admire.

I'm a different vibe every day and I have a wide range of different moods. Some days I want to play the strong, sexy role, but on other days I'm an extremely reserved tomboy. I think it's important to show that you don't always have to be one kind of person because life doesn't work that way. You have to do and be what comes naturally. I also consider myself to be unique in this industry because of my stature. People only look at a 6 foot woman and assume I play sports or model.

My debut single "First Impression" was released in December of 2018.
I'm currently working on putting together my first EP. Much like my personality and style, I want people to see the wide range of music I am capable of providing.

I see myself going as far as my voice takes me. I spent a long time being shy, doubting myself, and not chasing my dreams. Now its all about growth and stepping into my purpose. I want to introduce everyone to Makaela and hopefully in the next 5 years I'll have performed all around the world.
