Mango Punch!

The Houston-based Walter Suhr founded Mango Punch in the early '90s, and the band made its live debut in the summer of 1991. Since then, the group has moved forward at a steady clip, varying in size over the years as it's made a name for itself performing at countless festivals, nightclubs and high-profile private parties throughout the region. The band has also made trips to Mexico and Guatemala, Suhr's homeland, for TV and radio appearances, and festival performances. Mango Punch has made some real headway south of the border, their music and videos receiving airplay on MTV-S, Telemundo and other outlets. Mango Punch tackles a host of sounds -- sweeping balladry, lite hip-hop, reggae, salsa and other exotic strains -- while never straying far from friendly, conventional pop hooks. That has allowed Suhr to hurdle racial and cultural barriers with relative ease despite singing in Spanish. A winsome vocalist and competent multi-instrumentalist trained in piano, guitar, percussion and computer sequencing, Suhr has released three album's with Mango Punch: 1994's Mango Punch! and 1997's Pop/Rock and 2001's Que Me Pongo. © Hobart Rowland /TiVo
