Known previously as Genesis, Brendon Waters, aka
Marley Waters, reached millions of U.S. homes via America's Best Dance Crew as part of Status Quo, and within a few years saw his name near the top of the Billboard R&B/hip-hop chart. A Boston native,
Waters is a songwriter, producer, singer, rapper, and DJ whose first major work was on "Can't Touch This," a single by Interscope artist
Colette Carr that featured
E-40. The following year,
Waters teamed up with
DJ Mustard to co-write and co-produce
Tinashe's "2 On," a Top Five R&B/hip-hop smash that went platinum in 2014. After
Waters established a DJ'ing career, he also began to self-release predominantly club-oriented solo singles that alternated between contemporary R&B, rap, and reggae. Among his most successful tracks were "On to You [Remix]" (2015), "Share My Last" (2016), and "Wine Pon It" (2017), all issued as he continued to write for the likes of
Justine Skye ("Anticipation") and
Wyclef Jean ("I Swear"). ~ Andy Kellman
