The French rock band Marquis de Sade were formed in Rennes, France in 1977 by vocalist Philippe Pascal and guitarist Franck Darcel. During their short four-year career the group recorded two albums, 'Dantzig Twist' and 'Rue de Siam', which many critics consider to be amongst the most creative and interesting albums released during the post-punk era. Comparisons with the band's music have been drawn with Magazine, the Mancunian post-punk band formed by Howard Devoto during the same period.Billboard have cited the band's music as highly influential, however despite the critical acclaim the band split in 1981 and Pascal joined the band Marc Seberg whilst Darcel became a member of Octobre (2). © ©Copyright Music Story 2020
