French contemporary R&B singer, songwriter, and producer
Matt Houston (
Matthieu Gore) was born in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe, but moved to Paris, France, prior to establishing his music career. Prior to reaching the age of 20, he founded his own label, On the Track. He signed to France's long-running
Barclay label and released his debut album, Matt, in 1999. While the 2000 single "12/003" peaked at number nine in France, his true breakthrough came with the 2001 album
R&B 2 Rue, which achieved platinum status.
Houston's following releases included
Chant de Bataille (2006), Phoenix 2006 (2006), and
Papa Est Back (2010). Racines (2012) was heralded by "Positif," a song with lyrics delivered in French and English that reached the Top Five in France. ~ Andy Kellman
