Noah Cyrus unveiled her debut song and video for “Make Me (Cry)” featuring Labrinth to critical acclaim.
Filmed in Los Angeles, the emotional video was directed by renowned British director Sophie Muller (Beyoncé, Coldplay, Gwen Stefani) and sees Cyrus and Labrinth, mimicking each other’s longing for their partner’s amorous affection. “As soon as I heard the song I wanted to do it. I loved her voice on it and thought it was so arresting and brave sounding,” said Muller.
"I feel like I got to make a great moment with two creatively exalted people,” exclaimed Labrinth while Cyrus said, “Lab is like a big brother to me, so having him on set for my first video was amazing. Also, getting to work with someone as talented as Sophie was such an honor. I had the best time making this video!”
The introductory song was met with unanimous praise in the U.S. and abroad, garnered five million combined streams and views in just one week. It now has over 45 million combined video views and over 52 million combined audio streams. “One of the edgiest pop songs of 2016,” wrote Seventeen, while Billboard deemed it, ““a step away from the typical bubbly pop song most singers launch their careers with.”
In the U.K., The Daily Mail affirmed she “Stands out with her own unique, dreamy sound,” and i-D said, “We've had @noahcyrus' new banger 'Make Me (Cry)' on repeat here at i-D HQ and we recommend you do the same.”
Hailing from music family royalty, Cyrus is no stranger to the industry, yet has a strong voice of her own. She has officially signed a record deal with RECORDS, as well as a publishing deal with sister company, SONGS Music Publishing. She is currently writing and recording songs for her forthcoming album.
