Bassist
Phil Feit was a busy player on the New York music scene from the mid-'70s into the late '80s. Born in 1959 in Manhattan, he started listening to music from the mid-'60s onward. He was drawn to the work of
Jimi Hendrix and, later,
Mountain, and gravitated toward the bass thanks to the work of
Jack Bruce, both in the
Cream, and also as a solo artist.
Feit's first major affiliation was with the Brooklyn-based hard rock outfit
Riot, with whom he recorded one album,
Rock City. He joined
Billy Idol's band in the early '80s and was on the latter's debut album -- he can be spotted on any number of
Billy Idol performance clips (looking like he's having the time of his life), from music showcase series such as Solid Gold and various concert venues into the early to mid-'80s. He later played with heavy metal singer
Adam Bomb, and, after a decade in rock music, moved into session work, including commercial recordings with Paul Schaffer and others. He has since retired from full-time music, while still young enough to savor his time in the business. ~ Bruce Eder
