Dream pop trio
Picnic hail from the unlikely indie hotbed of Tallinn, Estonia. Members
Marju Taukar,
Rivo Järvsoo, and
Andres Soosaar are all veterans of the small but vibrant Estonian scene, having played together in previous bands before forming
Picnic in 2006. Citing influences like
Sigur Rós,
Cocteau Twins, and
My Bloody Valentine, the group evenly blends the washed-out fuzz of classic shoegaze with the warm, ethereal melodies of dream pop. Signed to the small Tallinn-based indie Seksound Records, the group released their debut LP
Winter Honey in 2010. The album was well-received and they were soon picked up by American-based Shelflife Records who released a 7" in 2011. Choosing to record at home rather than the studio,
Picnic took their time working on a follow-up LP. The result of their labor was 2013's
The Weather's Fine, which was released by Shelflife (in conjunction with Seksound). ~ Timothy Monger
