A link to the traditional zydeco sound of an era gone by, accordionist
Preston Frank was best known in many circles as the father of nouveau zydeco star
Keith Frank. Born in Oberlin, Louisiana in 1947,
Frank and his group the Family Zydeco Band -- also known as the Soileau Playboys as well as the Swallow Band -- honed their chops playing throughout the Eunice/Mamou area for a number of years; they did not record until 1981, sharing the collection Zydeco Volume 2 with Ambrose Sam. Over time the group's ranks grew to include his children
Keith (accordion),
Brad (drums) and Jennifer (bass); by the 1990s, the elder
Frank began to ease into retirement, allowing
Keith to gradually assume full control of the band. ~ Jason Ankeny
