A collaboration between
OK Go's Tim Nordwind and He Say, She Say's Drea Smith,
Pyyramids borrows elements of each member's other project without sounding exactly like anything else in their bodies of work. After an introduction via a mutual friend, the pair bonded over a shared love for British post-punk and began writing songs together. Their debut EP, 2001's Human Beings, introduced
Pyyramids' mix of Smith's powerful vocals and Nordwind's arrangements. The duo recorded their debut album in Nordwind's studio, with
Dave Fridmann and Nordwind's
OK Go bandmate
Dan Konopka assisting with additional mixing and recording duties. The result,
Brightest Darkest Day, was released in April 2013 on
OK Go's own Paracadute Records. ~ Heather Phares
