Rafael Rocha

Brazilian artist, musician, composer, singer, and producer. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1981, he wanted to be a drummer as a child and formed several bands until he started working with the circus group “Intrépida Trupe” in his teens. Soon after, he created together with his brother a performing group called “Brasov”, with whom he traveled around the Cariri hinterland, performing in concerts, and won soundtrack awards. He did street art with the audiovisual group “Binário” and even released records in England. He also created the experimental group “Rabotnik”, with whom he recorded with Gal Costa and Caetano Veloso. He conceived the band “Tono” in Rio de Janeiro, releasing three albums with them, and identified himself as being a singer, composer, and arranger. He has songs recorded by Ney Matogrosso and Roberta Sá. He has co-produced and co-wrote songs with one of his mentor Jorge Mautner, and co-produced with Adriana Calcanhotto, who he still performs with. He has collaborated with Moreno Veloso and Gilberto Gil in award-winning albums and concerts. During his solo career, he has produced and released the album “Pirâmide”, which was recorded in a cabin in the woods, and he is to release “Pedra”, an album recorded in a studio. Besides having been the musical director in several plays, he has participated in a project in the Amazon, where he co-produced both workshops and an album by the Huni Kuin indigenous people.
