In addition to drumming for Varnaline and sharing duties in the now-departed Space Needle, New Yorker Jud Ehrbar crafts his own moody songs under the name Reservoir. A DIY self-recordist and no slouch in the production department, he mixes metallic reverb, random oscillations, and the rest of the kitchen sink into his sometimes dreary, never boring, songs. From the lushly cinematic "40" to the sunshine-driven, yet fractured "Let's Fall in Love Again," Ehrbar's creatively complex approach thankfully never vilifies the simple and heartfelt. Rather, he takes bits of pieces and welds them into beautifully agitated, sometimes stoically beautiful, songs greater than the sums of their parts.
