Russ Liquid is the performing name of New Orleans-based trumpeter, keyboardist, producer, and beatmaker Russell Scott. A veteran of projects like the
Uprite Dub Orchestra and the
MarchFourth Marching Band, Scott eventually began experimenting with electronic music using the name
Russ Liquid. Making his debut in 2011 with the album Purple (credited to Russ Liquid Sound), he followed up two years later with the Foreign Frequency LP. As a producer and collaborator, Scott has appeared on a wide variety of different projects, and while on tour crossed paths with Florida-based guitarist
Andrew Block. With the like-minded
Block and drummer Deven Trusclair, he formed the trio Russ Liquid Test, combining New Orleans jazz and funk with modern electronic elements. The group signed with Detroit's All Good Records and released their debut EP, 1984, in 2016. ~ Timothy Monger
