Violinist
Sebastian Bohren was born in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, and he studied at the Kunst- und Sport-Gymnasium Rämibühl, where his teacher was Jens Lohmann. Later, he continued his studies with
Robert Zimansky, Zakhar Bron, Igor Karsko, and
Ingolf Turban.
Bohren was a recipient of a scholarship from the LYRA Foundation. In 2007,
Bohren received the Marguerite Meister Foundation scholarship, and in 2011, he won the Curt Dienemann Music Award and the Carl Hirschmann Foundation scholarship. He has collaborated with many conductors, including
Andrew Litton,
Muhai Tang,
James Gaffigan, Patrick Lange, and
Heinrich Schiff, and he has appeared as a soloist with the
Musikkollegium Winterthur, the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the
Sinfonieorchester Basel, the
Orchestra di Padove e del Veneto, and the
London Steve Reich Ensemble, among many other groups. An active chamber musician,
Bohren has performed with
Thomas Demenga,
Mayuko Kamio,
Roby Lakatos,
Benjamin Schmid,
Maximilian Hornung,
Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Fabio di Casola, Orfeo Mandozzi, and Alexander Zemtsov.
Bohren has toured and recorded with his own ensemble, the Stradivari Quartet, which has performed with the
Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra.
Bohren has recorded for RCA Red Seal and Sony Classical.
