Skaos

A six-piece German band takes an approach to Ska that broadens the genre with an injection of world music. Multiple layers of horns play a big part in expanding the parameters by blurting out short blasts that sound like Caribbean music one moment, followed by longer notes reminiscent of Ska the next. The horn accents are reiterated by a singer who more often than not comes off like the Ska version of Buster Poindexter. The flexibility of the backline with their ability to shift gears from song to song plays an important role in keeping the groove danceable through all the transitions.
