Argentinian singer/songwriter Paula García's work as
Sobrenadar (Spanish for supernatant) evokes feelings of being suspended in water. Her songs typically blend airy guitars, slow-motion beats, and gentle vocals, resulting in blissful dream pop which makes an ideal soundtrack for daydreaming. After debuting with a self-titled, self-released album in 2010,
Sobrenadar continued releasing music independently and performing around the world throughout the decade. Her first internationally released album, Y, appeared in 2018.
García was born in the Northern part of Argentina in 1988. She moved to Buenos Aires in order to study music production in 2006, and moved back home two years later, when she began recording music in her bedroom studio. Following her 2010 debut, she released several EPs and an additional full-length, 2012's 1859, on her Bandcamp page, gradually attracting the attention of dream pop fans worldwide. 2014 compact disc Tres, issued by Casa del Puente Discos, compiled the best of
Sobrenadar's early material. That same year, she performed at the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, and she participated in the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris in 2015. After
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma heard García's work, he invited her to contribute to his 2017 album
On the Echoing Green. The following year,
Sobrenadar signed to British label Sonic Cathedral. Her first release for the label, Y, appeared in September of 2018, preceded by remixes from the likes of
Slowdive and
Mark Peters. ~ Paul Simpson
