Échappée de la planète Internet, Ta-Ra a attendu le bon moment pour se présenter au Monde. Elle grandit en banlieue parisienne nourri par des films d’animation japonaise ou de Walt Disney et la musique Soul favorite de sa maman, la chanteuse s'arme dès son plus jeune âge des qualités qui vont bientôt définir sa musique : une esthétique aérienne, une envie de rassembler par le mélange, et une impudeur à parler d'amour. Ses premiers émois sonores sont logiques pour une ado des années 2000 : Pop / Dance puis basculent vite vers le rap et le RnB américain.
A la fin de l'adolescence, Ta-Ra découvre les joies d'Internet. Son terrain de jeu favori : Soundcloud, plateforme enveloppée de vaporwave ou phonk et peuplée de savants fou tels que Corbin, BONES ou Yung Lean. C'est désormais acté, son RnB sera alternatif et s'influencera autant de la douceur de Sade que de la magie d’Erykah Badu ou la chimie d’Aaliyah. Ta-Ra découvre alors un réseau social et un champ infini de possibilités, sans barrières de genres, de styles, de langues. C'est le porte-étendard d'une génération qui ose prendre des risques. A partir de 2014, elle saute le pas. Prods chinées çà et là, session dans le studio d'une connaissance ; elle sort un premier titre : ‘Melon Soda’. Suivront deux EP's entièrement en anglais – elle y est plus à l'aise qu'avec le français, ‘LiquidCrystal’ et ‘TuaregShawty’.
A 22 ans, direction le Japon pour une toute autre orientation : à Tokyo, Ta-Ra veut découvrir la culture du soleil levant car elle a décidé d’en apprendre la langue– elle en parle 5 – et y rencontre des artistes et amis. Elle y restera un an. Marchant toujours à l'instinct, elle saisit l'occasion et tourne le clip d'un morceau produit par le beatmaker NxxxxS ‘Lil Bit’ qui cumule plus d'un million de vues et devient son tube. Paradoxalement, c'est une fois là-bas que les gens commencent à s'intéresser à elle et que les médias la découvrent. Elle est la « jeune papesse du RnB alternatif » pour Les Inrocks, la « princesse du RnB français » pour i-D, elle reçoit même les éloges de Dazed et The Fader. Mais c'est trop tôt. A son retour en France en 2016, elle sort un nouvel EP, ‘Sunrayz’, épaulée par le producteur Myth Syzer, et puis se pose.
Ta-Ra croit aux choses qui se font naturellement. Elle marche à la passion, écrit sur l'amour inconditionnel, la connaissance et conscience de soi – pour elle la base de tout équilibre, et peut aussi dédier un morceau à Nikola Tesla, qui avait pour but d'apporter l'énergie au plus grand nombre – c'est également son souhait. A l'image de ses autres inspirations, les poètes et écrivains Khalil Gibran et Rumi, Mohammed Ali ou Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Ta-Ra est ouverte au monde, douée d'humanisme et d'une ambition positiviste à toute épreuve.
Aujourd'hui, à 26 ans, elle peaufine son projet ‘RaRe 1’ mêlant electro, ambient, Rap et RnB, et s'influençant aussi bien d'Aaliyah, que de Frank Ocean ou de BO de jeux vidéo comme Tomb Raider. On y croise la mélodie interstellaire cristalline de ‘5Star’, l'hymne à l'amitié ‘Nebulas’, un ‘Falcon7’ qui invite à prendre de la hauteur, et aussi ‘Exit’, un featuring avec un duo de rap chinois – Vroskiii, rencontré lors d'une date à Shanghai. Le destin, encore une fois. Nous sommes entrés dans l'ère du Verseau, une période d'harmonie durant laquelle les hommes et les femmes vont prendre conscience des choses, s'éveiller, se rendre compte que tout est possible. Et cette ère sera celle de Ta-Ra ?
Escaped from an unknown Planet of the internet, Ta-Ra waited for the right time to land on Earth. She spent her childhood in Parisian suburbs feeding on Japanese animation movies, Walt Disney or musicals, and her mum's favorite soul music. Her first music crushes made sense for a teen of the 2000s: Pop and Dance then quickly switched over American hip-hop and RnB.
All of them would soon to define her own music: airy aesthetics, a desire to gather, and a shameless way to talk about love. By the end of her teenage years, Ta-Ra discovered the joys of Internet and her favorite playground: Soundcloud – a platform shrouded in Phonk music or Vaporwave and inhabited by mad & melancholic scientists like Corbin, BONES or Yung Lean. Alternative RnB would be the game that she'll play and she would draw inspiration from the smoothness of Sade and the chemistry of Aaliyah or the magic of Erykah Badu. Ta-Ra found in Soundcloud a real social network and an infinite number of possibilities, without limitations of genre, style or language. It was and still is the flagship of a generation that dares to take risks. In 2014, with borrowed beats and a friend friend’s home studio, Ta-Ra took the risk and published a first track: ‘Melon Soda’. Shortly after she would eventually put up two EPs, ‘LiquidCrystaland’, ‘TuaregShawty’ – both entirely in English.
At 22, in Tokyo, Ta-Ra decided to move to the land of the rising sun of which she had learn the language – she speaks five – to meet new artists and friends. She would spend a year there. Always following her instincts, she also took the opportunity to film a video for ‘Lil Bit’ - a song produced by beatmaker NxxxxS. The clip would generate more than a million views and become her first hit. Ironically, that's once in Japan people got to show interest in Ta-Ra and publications started to write about her music. She was « the young popess of alternative RnB » for Les Inrocks, « the princess of French RnB » for i-D, and was even praised by Dazed and The Fader. But this was too much too soon. When she came back to France in 2016, she recorded a third EP – ‘Sunrayz’ – with producer Myth Syzer, then sat back and thought. Ta-Ra believes in the organic way of things. She's driven by passion, writes on unconditional love, self-knowledge and consciousness – for her, the key to equilibrium. She's also able to dedicate a song to Nikola Tesla, whose goal was to generate free power to the people – that is also Tara's wish. Not unlike her other inspirations – poet and writers Gibran Khalil Gibran or Rumi, Muhammad Ali or Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Ta-Ra is aware of the world, open minded, humanistic, environmentalist, ambitious but not in a hurry.
Today, at 26, Ta-Ra is finalizing her project ‘RaRe 1’, mingling electronica, ambient, Rap and RnB. She still draws from various role-models; Aaliyah, Frank Ocean or original video games soundtracks like in Tomb Rider. From the crystal interstellar melody of ‘FiveStar’ to ‘Nebulas’ - a hymn to friendship; from ‘Falcon7’ that invites us all to take a high sky vision, to ‘Exit’ featuring a Chinese rap duet – Vroskiii – she met during a gig in Shanghai; the album shines on all spectrums. We entered the Age of Aquarius, an era of harmony where men and women are going to gain awareness, be more conscious, realize that everything is possible – will that era be the one for Ta-Ra’s rise?
