Taximi

The music of Greece has provided the inspiration for Stockholm, Sweden-based octet Taximi. Performing on traditional Greek instruments, including the bouzouki, baglamas (small bouzouki), toumperlekin (small drum), and finger cymbals, the group surveys the full spectrum of Hellenic music including rebetika (love songs), smymeika (from the Smyrna region), Dimotika (country songs), Nisiotika (island songs), and laika (urban music). In 1997, Taximi performed at the Herodian Theater at the base of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. ~ Craig Harris
