An intercontinental duo responsible for only Eyes Rest Their Feet (2020),
Thaba based their intimate work in a wide assortment of sounds that included mbaqanga-derived bubblegum, soul, dub, electro, sophisti-pop, and downtempo electronica.
Singer and songwriter Khusi Seremane connected with musician and producer
Gabriel Cyr through MySpace. The New York-based
Cyr originally intended to have Cape Town, South Africa native Seremane work with him on material released under his primary recording alias,
Teleseen. Instead, the affiliation bloomed into a fully collaborative album written and recorded -- both in-person and remotely -- during a period of several years. Fleshed out with instrumentation from members of bands such as
Antibalas,
Midnight Magic, and Underground System, Eyes Rest Their Feet materialized on Miles Cleret's Soundway label in November 2020. Seremane, who had been beset with health problems for an extended period, died four months before it was released. ~ Andy Kellman
