Quik (formerly
DJ Quik) and
AMG, two Compton-based West Coast rap veterans, teamed up in late 2006 to form
the Fixxers, an outlet for the pair as MCs and producers. Since striking big with "Bitch Betta Have My Money" in 1991,
AMG had recorded sporadically as a solo artist, while he appeared on numerous tracks headlined by others -- a few of which were produced by
Quik. While
Quik released solo albums with greater frequency, he also became increasingly respected (if not recognized nearly enough) for his work behind the boards, collaborating with a wide range of MCs and singers, including
8Ball & MJG,
Jay-Z,
Jadakiss,
Ludacris,
Janet Jackson,
Christopher Williams, and
Whitney Houston. As
the Fixxers,
Quik and
AMG signed with Interscope and preceded their first full-length in early 2007 with the stripped-down club single "Can You Werk wit Dat?" ~ Andy Kellman
