The Gazetteers were put together in 2002 by former
Vehicle Flips and
Wimp Factor 14 member Frank Boscoe. Teaming up with Steve Silverstein (
Christmas Decorations) and Rob Christiansen (
Sisterhood of Convoluted Thinkers), Boscoe whipped up an album's worth of wry, angular tunes that welcomed comparisons to artists like
Jonathan Richman and
Pavement, not to mention
Wimp Factor 14.
The Gazetteers' debut full-length, the aptly named
Territory Songs (Boscoe holds a PhD in geography), was released on the Portland, OR-based label Magic Marker that summer. Andrea McEwen and Jeannine Durfee were welcomed into the fold for the band's sophomore album,
Landlocked!; that disc was released on the band's homegrown label, Salt in Wound, in the fall of 2006. ~ TiVo Staff
