Multi-reed player and composer, Scott was among the most high-profile pop and rock session players and bandleaders on the West Coast in the 70s and 80s. While still in his teens, Scott was playing with Oliver Nelson and Don Ellis and appearing in bands for television shows. At 19 he was a featured soloist in Roger Kellaway's quartet and in his early 20s Scott was writing extensively for film and television. An excellent technical player, with extensive range, superb tone and facility, plus the flexibility to fit into blues, rock, pop, and fusion contexts as well as standard jazz, Scott became a crossover success with the formation of The LA Express in the 70s. Scott's own albums have tended to be fusion/pop endeavors, and seldom aedquate showcases for his skills. He's done better in his stints doing solos for sessions by Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and others. © TiVo
