The recording moniker of Chicago-born DJ and producer Ethan Snoreck,
Whethan makes elaborately detailed, club-ready electronic pop incorporating influences such as trap, alternative rock, and future bass. The wunderkind began making waves with his remixes and original productions well before he graduated from high school in 2017. A frequent collaborator with
Oliver Tree, he's also worked with
Charli XCX,
Dua Lipa,
Jeremih,
Tom Morello, and numerous others, with several of his collaborations appearing in Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs charts.
Fantasy, his eclectic debut full-length, appeared in 2020, with guests including
Grouplove,
K.Flay, and
Chrome Sparks. Two years later, he issued his sophomore long-player, Midnight.
Snoreck initially began releasing house music under his own name, with the name Wheathin (later changed to
Whethan, for legal reasons) reserved for remixes and edits. His career took off in 2015 when, at 16, he released a track on the respected Australian EDM label
Future Classic. Over the next year,
Whethan remixed tracks by major artists like
ZAYN,
Ty Dolla $ign, and
Bastille while also producing singles of his own like "Can't Hide," "When I'm Down," and the
Flux Pavilion and
MAX collaboration "Savage," which reached number 29 on Billboard's dance chart. In early 2017, he collaborated with
Charli XCX on the single "Love Gang." The following year, he paired with
Dua Lipa for the track "High," off the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, which made number 12 on the dance chart. Other charting singles included collaborations with
Broods and
Oh Wonder, as well as "Radar," featuring
HONNE, which appeared on his debut EP,
Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 1, that November.
Whethan released "Win You Over," a collaboration with Bearson and
SOAK, in early 2019. "Let Me Take You" (with
Jeremih) and "Summer Luv (with
the Knocks featuring
Crystal Fighters) also appeared that year. Several singles led up to the release of the 2020 full-length
Fantasy, which included guests such as
STRFKR,
the Wombats,
Grouplove, and
the Front Bottoms. "Warning Signs" (featuring
Kevin George), "Think You're Right" (featuring
Ericdoa and
Glaive), and "2 MUCH" (feat.
Jasiah &
KA$HDAMI) appeared in 2021.
