Based out of Birmingham, Alabama, hard-hitting post-grunge/metal outfit
Within Reason operate in numerous hard rock subgenres, and have had their songs featured in films, television, and video games. Formed in 2005 around the talents of Chris Dow, David Koonce, and Griffin Zarbough, and inspired by bands like
Rage Against the Machine,
Staind, and
Linkin Park, the Southern rockers issued an independent debut EP, Cycle a Smile, in 2006, which led to a live appearance on the WB television drama One Tree Hill. During this time, the band toured extensively, playing alongside acts like
Hinder,
Black Stone Cherry, and
Plain White T's.
In 2008,
Within Reason headed into the studio with multi-platinum producer
Rick Beato and began work on their debut long-player. The resulting
Bloodshot Life was released the following year, with the Nick Chahwala-produced EP
After the Crawl arriving in 2012. In early 2013 the band appeared in a television commercial for Microsoft Surface, and in 2014
Within Reason joined the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival tour followed by a North American tour with
Godsmack and
Seether. Co-produced by
Hinder's
Cody Hanson and
Marshal Dutton, the group's second studio long-player, Battlefields: Life Love and War, arrived in 2017. The following year saw the band issue the single "Elephant Fight 17," a celebration of University of Alabama football and their 17 national championships. ~ James Christopher Monger
