Zebula Avenue were formed by its leader, singer/songwriter/guitarist Gail Baker, under the name
47UMa in Detroit, MI, in 1996. The group went through various configurations and released a self-titled debut album in 2002 before evolving into
Zebula Avenue, with a lineup that included singers Maureen Honoré and Maggie McCabe, guitarist James Niemi, bassist Greg Nance, drummer Sandy Lovely, and percussionist Mahindi Masai.
