After a decade as a street rhumba, hip-hop, and polyglot flamenco punk band -- and a few before that as a multi-disciplinary arts project -- Barcelona's
Ojos de Brujo (Eyes of the Sorcerer) called it a day with a farewell tour. They left in their wake a slew of singles, three full-length studio albums, a live recording, and an album of remixes. Corriente Vital: 10 Anos is their recorded farewell. It contains new versions of songs from their various studio albums, a couple of new songs, remixes, collaborations with guest artists and producers (
Nitin Sawhney,
Orishas,
Los Pericos,
Juno Reactor,
Manolo Garcia, and
Jorge Drexler among them), and radio edits. For those who are familiar with the band's catalog, this is a welcome addition; for newcomers, a more suitable introduction might be 2002's Barí or 2006's Techarí. ~ Thom Jurek
