Packing all of the technical fun and exploration into a surprisingly concise package, God Forbid continue to explore a progressive sound on Equilibrium while scaling back some of the prog leanings from their last album. Equilibrium feels like the bandmembers have figured out how to expand their songwriting while "getting to the point" faster. With the longest songs clocking in at just over the five-minute mark, God Forbid are able to cultivate an urgency while still getting to flex their creative muscle. This kind of timing allows songs like "Awakening" to cover a surprising amount of ground in just over two and a half minutes, making for songs that are sprawling without a lot of dawdling around. With this blend of creativity and immediacy, Equilibrium is a solid entry into God Forbid's catalog that fans of the band will definitely want to check out.
