After fleeing the turmoil of their home in northern Mali, the members of Songhoy Blues started a band to keep the music of their people alive. On the their astounding debut full-length—Music in Exile—the foursome team up with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and Amadou & Mariam associate Marc-Antoine Moreau for a dazzling collection that rolls effortlessly through a number of styles—including new takes on traditional Songhoy songs. “Nick” features an exuberant groove and sizzling solo, while “Mali” is an incandescent and unforgettable tribute to their homeland.
