After establishing a garage rock sound enamored with the fuzz and theatrics of 1960s pop artists as part of the band
J.C. Satan, French singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Arthur Larregle refined that sound into something gentler and more introspective with his solo recordings as
Arthur Satan. His 2021 solo debut
So Far So Good looked to
the Kinks,
the Pretty Things,
the Zombies, and other '60s acts as inspiration for its psychedelic songcraft and Baroque pop.
Bordeaux-based musician Arthur Larregle was part of multiple bands in his late teens and early twenties, but he became
Arthur Satan with the 2010 formation of his garage rock act
J.C. Satan. While busy with
J.C. Satan, Larregle also helped record other groups and quietly worked on solo material that took a softer approach to psychedelia than his often brash and raging full band. After producing scattered demos for years, he released his first fully realized solo album,
So Far So Good, with the
Born Bad label in 2021. Still built on rock guitars and drums, the arrangements also included piano, Mellotron, wistful vocal harmonies, and other elements of chamber pop. ~ Fred Thomas
