AT THE GROVE is an instrumental post rock / progressive rock band from Münster, Germany.
The sole member is Dennis Abstiens. He writes all the songs. He is responsible for all instruments,
production, mixing, and mastering of the music.
As Dennis is a formally trained drummer, drums play a leading role for AT THE GROVE. A passion for
complex rhythm and odd beats, beyond the usual 4/4, is the signature sound of AT THE GROVE. It’s
not about being complicated at all costs though. Rather, despite the rhythmic complexity, the
listener should find a reference point in catchy harmonies and melodies that ensures that the music
remains in its flow. Moreover the epic sounds have an almost cinematic style, and create a special
atmosphere.
Categorizing AT THE GROVE in one specific genre is a difficult task. The atmosphere of post rock, the
complex rhythm of prog rock and a touch of cinematic music lead to its own style of music full of
heart, passion, and emotion. The love for making music is the motivation to move forward.
The sound is influenced by prog bands such as Tool, and post rock bands like Russian Circles and
Maybeshewill, as well as bands from a different genre like GoGo Penguin.
Despite being solely instrumental, each song tells a story through the music. This can be an event, a
memory, a place, or an image. Careful thought was placed into song titles.
The band’s name is inspired by the location of production - a house next to a grove.
