Atakhama was founded in 2004, when Jyväskylä, Finland natives Simo Rahikainen (guitar), J-V Hintikka (guitar), Matti Honkonen (bass), and drummer Timo Häkkinen decided their current band, Funeris Nocturnum, had run its course. Seeking a fresh start to go with their new direction, they joined forces with vocalist Jimmy Salmi and signed with Woodcut Records, issuing their debut album,
