b. 23 May 1920, Baltimore, USA, d. c.70s. One of the few female blues guitarists, Bea Booze, aka Wee Bee, was thought to have been the discovery of pianist and talent scout Sammy Price who introduced her to Decca Records in 1942. Despite recording topical numbers such as ‘Uncle Sam Come And Get Him’ and ‘War Rationin’ Papa’, it was her rendition of the standard ‘See See Rider’ with which she found fame. Her recording career was short-lived, although she did tour with the Andy Kirk Band in the mid-40s, made one 78 rpm record as Muriel (Bea Booze) Nicholas And Her Dixielanders for 20th Century in 1946, and recorded four tracks for Apollo in 1950. Her last known recordings were with Sammy Price in the early 60s for the Stardust label.
