Bilal Hassani is a French pop singer of Moroccan heritage who garnered attention on the television programme 'The Voice Kids' in 2015 and went on to the show 'Destination Eurovision' held to select France's entry in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. He won with the song 'Roi', which he performed at the event in Tel Aviv in May 2019. He took singing lessons as a child but his time on the second season of 'The Voice Kids' ended during the battle rounds. He attracted attention on YouTube and released a single and video titled 'Shadows' in 2018. He is hailed by the LGBTQ community for his gender-neutral style, his wigs and videos such as 'Queer Is the New Black' and 'I'm Falling in Love With a Hetero!'. His performances on 'Destination Eurovision' catapulted him to national fame and he has toured the country while the single 'Roi' has topped the France Singles Chart.
