Bill Saxton

Bill Saxton

* En anglais uniquement

Tenor saxophonist Bill Saxton first attracted attention recording and playing with Dannie Richmond in 1979, and he later worked with Charlie Persip's big band and Errol Parker. His playing has been strong and confident, but also essentially standard hard bop in a Wayne Shorter/John Coltrane mode. Saxton can be heard on recordings more often as a sideman than a leader; his own albums include 1984’s Beneath the Surface and 1994’s Atymony. In 2006 Saxton opened the jazz venue Bill's Place on West 133rd Street in Harlem, at the location of a former speakeasy. Saxton has since devoted a considerable portion of his creative energies to managing and playing at the club, while continuing to appear on recordings as a sideman. ~ Ron Wynn
