Bleach Day grew from two friends experimenting with sound into a full-on live band still rooted in the hazy, curious pop sonics of their earliest days. The band's wide-eyed production gelled with light and breezy songwriting on their 2020 sophomore album
As If Always.
Bleach Day began as the project of producers
Vinny Marksohn and
Louie Kiley. Working with an analog multitrack tape recorder instead of a more customary digital recording interface, the duo was able to achieve washed-out sounds that suited their dreamlike, lo-fi approach. These sound experiments eventually grew into drifty pop songs, and the first
Bleach Day album, 2016's Where to Dream, bridged psychedelic indie tunes with ambient interludes. When it came time for the band to translate their studio experimentation into a live music experience,
Marksohn and
Kiley expanded the band with the addition of auxiliary musicians Amelia Devoid, Jon Kraus, and Mitch Manacek. Second album
As If Always arrived in 2020, tightening up the band's compositional sensibilities without losing any of their psychedelic sheen. ~ Fred Thomas
