From the late ‘30s thru the early ‘60s, Warwick was a section trumpeter with Don Redman, Bunny Berigan, Mills Blue Rhythm Band, Dizzy Gillespie and other top big bands. Born in Alabama, Warwick moved to New Jersey in 1930. He played professionally around New York City in the ‘30s, before working in Philadelphia with Freddie Fairfax about 1936. Warwick played with the Mills Blue Rhythm, Redman, and Berigan bands from 1937 to 1939. He also worked with singer Tiny Bradshaw and saxophonist Teddy Hill. Warwick led an Army band during World War II. In the years immediately following the war he played with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and worked freelance. He moved to California and led his own band in the ‘50s; he also worked with Lucky Millinder, Brew Moore, and Dizzy Gillespie during the decade. He recorded with Gillespie again in 1961. Warwick was hired as music director for the New York City Correctional Institute in 1966. He remained active during the ‘70s. Warwick performed as a member of Benny Carter's band at the 1973 Newport Jazz Festival in New York City. ~ Chris Kelsey
