Originally intended as a side project for Autocollants members Dwayne and Laura, the acoustic two-piece of Cartwheel got together in 1997 for the sake of releasing material that didn't fit the dream-inspired roster of their full-time band. Reeling a minimal pop formula of sugar-coated, boy/girl vocals, the duo made their debut recording on the compilation This Is Stereophonic Sunshine in 1997. Two years later, Cartwheel's first EP, Tumble, followed on Sandcastle Records.
