British duo
Champs make atmospheric, harmony-driven indie pop that straddles the line between the '60s psychedelia of
the Beatles and the angular indie rock of contemporary acts like
Hot Chip. They gained critical acclaim for their 2014 debut, Down Like Gold, and 2015's Vamala.
Hailing from the village of Niton on the Isle of Wight,
Champs feature brothers Michael and David Champion. After spending time in separate bands, the siblings joined forces in 2011 and began collaborating on songs together. By 2013 they had garnered attention online for the track "My Spirit Is Broken." The following year, they released their atmospheric, '60s-influenced debut, 2014's Down Like Gold, on PIAS Recordings. They returned in 2015 with the
Dimitri Tikovoi-produced Vamala, also on PIAS. The group's third full-length,
The Hard Interchange, arrived in 2019. ~ Matt Collar
