Rightfully explaining their music as "blues-informed" and "jazz-inspired," the Canadian duo Crestwood are still a pop/rock outfit at heart. After leading the Saskatoon bands Seven Levels and Sexually Attracted to Fire, singer and songwriter Steven Maier formed a six-piece rock band dubbed Crestwood in 2010. That same year they released their debut album, The Movies. A 2011 one-off duo version of Crestwood featuring Maier and band bassist Gent Laird went well enough that it became the official lineup that same year. Laird switched to acoustic bass, the jazz and blues influences came to the front, and the band hit the road with a set of original songs along with quirky cover versions, such as a nightclub-cocktail version of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time."
