Lovers rock and reggae vocalist
Da'Ville was born
Orville Thomas in 1978.
Thomas was raised in Kingston, Jamaica by his strict and religious grandmother, who made sure he was in regular attendance at church. There
Thomas joined the choir and developed an early love of music, which morphed from sacred singing to an interest in more pop-friendly reggae when he got a little bit older and was exposed to the exciting sounds of local independent acts.
Thomas spent his high-school years working on various projects, but truly came into his own a few years after graduating, going solo as
Da'Ville in 2001 when he signed his first record deal. He worked first as a highly successful singles artist, scoring several regional hits throughout the early 2000s with tunes like "All My Life" and "This Is the Feeling." His first album wouldn't come until 2005's
In Heaven, which included a massive hit of the same name. The album's success increased demand for new music from the vocalist, and he quickly followed with 2006's Can't Get Over You. The rest of the decade was full of international touring, recording, and strings of hit singles for
Da'Ville, who would spend plenty of time on the charts with tracks like "On My Mind." He slid into the 2010s riding high from the success of his 2009 album, Ichiban, which featured a guest spot from dancehall legend
Shaggy.
Da'Ville continued making new music in the form of mixtapes and the 2012 album Krazy Love. ~ Fred Thomas
