Darrell Ang is a Singaporean conductor. From an early age, he took lessons for violin, piano, and bassoon, and went on to study conducting and piano in Vienna, St. Petersburg, and Helsinki. He was trained by Jorma Panula and participated in master classes with Colin Davis and Lorin Maazel. In 2007, he won the top three prizes of the 50th Besançon International Competition for Young Orchestra Conductors, which propelled his career. He has conducted many orchestras around the world, including the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo, the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra of Korea, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg State Symphony, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He was the co-founder of the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic and served as its leader until 2006. He has also been involved with opera, collaborating with artists from the Mariinsky Theater, the St. Petersburg Opera, and the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory Opera and Ballet Theater. His debut CD on Naxos featured overtures and entr'actes from the operas of Meyerbeer.
