( b. Sydney, 31 Oct 1931). British composer. He studied in Sydney, at the RAM and with Seiber, then worked in London as a composition teacher until appointed to Durham University (1970). His music is founded on imaginative extensions of serial theory which convey a sturdy sense of growth. His works include the orchestral Hagoromo (1975) and pieces for smaller ensembles. He first used electronic distortion in Looking-glass Music (1970) for brass quintet and tape.
