Originally a drummer, Dominican merengue tipico artist Agapito Pascual started his own folk band in the late '80s. His rootsy update of merengue's traditional sounds made him a success in and outside of the Dominican Republic. Pascual's albums include El Mamon and Frente A Frente, which also features the work of his contemporary, Ciego De Nagua.
