The precursor of the pioneering industrial outfit
Godflesh,
Fall of Because was formed in 1982 by guitarist Paul Neville and bassist Ben Green; with the addition of drummer
Justin Broadrick a year later, the group's lineup was complete. During its five-year lifespan,
Fall of Because released only a single demo, 1986's Extirpate, although many of their songs (including "Life Is Easy," "Mighty Trust Krusher," and "Merciless") later formed the basis of early
Godflesh material. When the trio disbanded in 1987,
Broadrick and Green reunited as
Godflesh; their 1989 album, Streetcleaner, additionally featured contributions from
Neville, although his stay with his ex-bandmates proved short-lived. 1999's
Life Is Easy collected
Fall of Because's recorded output. ~ Jason Ankeny
