The German composer and songwriter Frank Duval was born in Berlin in 1940. His family were artistically-inclined and as a teenager Duval was encouraged to study acting and dance, he would also sing with his sister Maria. By the time he was in his twenties he was composing both orchestral and pop music. Duval's first break came when he was commissioned to write the soundtrack for an episode of the long running police drama series 'Tatort'. His debut album as a solo artist was 'Die schönsten Melodien aus Derrick und der Alte' which was released in 1979 and a single titled 'Todesengel' from the album became a minor hit.Duval released a number of successful singles during the 1980s but the most significant was his 1981 'Angel of Mine' which became a number one hit and launched his career as a pop singer. During this period, he continued to write soundtracks and also penned a series of hits for other artists including Ivan Rebroff, Alexandra, Karin Huebner, Margot Werner, Klaus Löwitsch, and Maria Schell. Since the mid-1990s Duval's album releases have been compilations of earlier works. © ©Copyright Music Story 2020
