Swiss-Italian composer Giona Ostinelli crafts soundtracks for television and film, frequently alongside his creative partner Sonya Belousova. In the late 2010s, the pair broke into the mainstream with the hit fantasy series, The Witcher, and its accompanying soundtrack, which featured the viral single, "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher."
Born in Vacallo, Switzerland in 1986, Ostinelli played both drums and piano as a child. Later, he studied at Berklee College of Music and the University of Southern California. While at the latter institution, he was a protege of Oscar-winning film composer Alan Silvestri. Starting in the late 2000s, Ostinelli started a prolific run of film and television scoring that included contributions to Homeland, Community, Elementary, and 24. Often, he did it with the help of pianist, composer, and fellow Berklee graduate Belousova. In addition to work on The Mist and The Romanoffs, the pair also worked on the fantasy property, The Witcher, which was developed from the book/video game into a television series in 2019. After the premier, a song from the show -- "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" performed by actor Joey Batey -- became a phenomenon with both critics and fans alike, rising on the Billboard charts by early 2020. That January, the official soundtrack was issued, compiling the best of Ostinelli and Belousova's eclectic, genre-spanning score, which also featured additional vocal contributions from Batey and Declan de Barra. ~ Neil Z.
