Girlfriend's retro pop is stamped in the tradition of Bacharach and David, though the dance/Acid Jazz beats certainly offer a thoroughly modern sound. Robin Crier and Phil Hyland trade off lead vocal; the songs Cryer takes on seem to be the stronger offerings. Clever thrift-store pop for a lovelorn, junk-collecting world.
